Grand Finale of the Colwick Christmas Choir
Festive fever ran high up to the culmination of bridging the generation gap with the Grand Finale of the Colwick Christmas Choir, which took place on Wednesday 6th December.
From in the region of 40+ schools expressing interest in the talent competition to a shortlisted 3 primary school choirs performing before residents of Larkhill Retirement Village. With social good its sole purpose in the month of Christmas where bringing together community is at heart, these fabulous children sung their hearts out making the whole project even more poignant.
Music was the best medium
And a judging panel was formed by Charles Dickens from residents of Larkhill who all gave intricate and technical feedback with bags of encouragement to all the schools. Interviews were held with both generations and the whole six week journey of collaboration amongst schools, residents and Selva Muthalagappan and Naomi Tupoulahi of Colwick Hall, was aptly captured by the expert team led by Iain Chambers at NottsTV in preparation towards a documentary expected to air on Christmas Eve (note mascara warning!).
Whilst all those who participated were winners, the judges also had a tough call when it came to presentation time as the bar set was so high. The hall was full with a packed audience nearing 150 residents.
Finally Forest Glade Primary School were declared winners of the Colwick Christmas Choir on Wednesday 22nd November 2017.
The school choir led by Mrs Avison and Mrs Chadbourn were thrilled. Forest Glade, being the winning choir were then treated to an afternoon tea comprising scones with jam and cream, finger sandwiches of various fillings, lots of cakes, chocolates and cupcakes together with squash and tea in our Champagne Lounge.
Forest Glade, a 70 strong choir of boys and girls between Yr 3-6, arrived at 12noon on Wednesday 6th December 2017. Strolling like superstars (sporting their ColwickChristmasChoir t shirts) through the entrance colonnade past the fountain, first stop was the Lord Byron Signature Suite. Yes we managed to get them all in one room!
Photographs were taken on the Grand Stairs before they were ushered to the 1776 Grand Ballroom. Standing before an audience from Larkhill, Forest Glade parents, and Colwick Hall team, the young worthy winners exuded style, character, confidence and harmony on point. The residents of Larkhill were once again touched and this fundamental notion of’Family’ brought these generations together in more ways than expected.
The Colwick Christmas Choir was a community project by Colwick Hall and was borne out of a creative session together with Victoria Taylor of Untwisted Media.
A plethora of praise has been received from all those involved in the journey and wider in support of this highly successful initiative. We express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all those who participated and assisted in so many ways to ensure the ColwickChristmasChoir took off with immense speed and tremendous success.
