Tea service becomes a showstopping showdown of the finest cucumber sandwiches and delicious muffins in our most earnest of afternoon teas. Starting in January 2026 this spectacular and traditional menu pays homage and takes inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s hugely celebrated and fabulously entertaining play, The Importance of Being Earnest.
At Colwick Hall themed teas have become quite the tradition following much success with the Bridgertea from last winter. The Earnest Afternoon Tea begins with a frightfully excessive selection of Lady Bracknell’s cucumber sandwiches, to Jack’s Tarragon chicken, Algernon’s Ham and cucumber and tuna mayonnaise finger sandwiches.
Riding up to the savoury tier, a hearty and wholesome country leek and potato soup, served in a taster cup together with Miss Prism’s mini quiche. Creating that perfect balance and harmony between sweet and savoury. Cecily’s poetry scones freshly home baked and accompanied with fruit preserve and clotted cream takes the top tier. Needless to say, the sweet slate earnestly envelopes centre stage. From Bunbury’s Blueberry muffin to Earnest’s hidden identity lemon drizzle, these sweet treats are more than decadent. A victoria sponge of earnest intentions is simply fluffy to taste and irresistibly relishing with the cream and strawberry filling. Most treasured – The handbag – a chocolate truffle satchel best reserved for the last bite.
All this time with an exodus of food on the forefront, Aunt Augusta’s tea selection offers copious varieties of tea to encourage endless conversation and much needed catch up with friends and family.
