How to make wedding planning less stressful
Congratulations you and your partner have decided to tie the knot! This is such a joyful time for you both and now it’s time to start planning the big day.
Where to start?
We know that planning a wedding can seem overwhelming at first, so we have broken it down into easy steps to help guide you through the process. Firstly, it’s good to bear in mind that the wedding is about the pair of you. What will make you both happy on your wedding day? Is there a theme you would both like and how can you both be part of the planning?
The Budget
This is definitely going to be the biggest influence in planning your wedding. How much are you happy to spend? Getting married should be a wonderful experience, make sure you stay on budget to keep financial pressures at bay – you don’t need to break the bank to have a fantastic wedding day.
The Venue
Saying ‘I Do’ is going to be a special moment for you, your families and friends to cherish. What setting do you imagine yourselves in when you get married? When choosing your venue there are a few things to consider…
The Guest List
How many people would you like to invite and do you need a venue to cater to a range of ages and needs? For example: will you need disability access? Do you like the idea of being close to your home for the convenience of travelling guests or would you want to venture a little further?
The Ceremony
What kind of wedding would you like? Would you like a religious or civil ceremony? You will need to ensure that your venue/s can provide your desired option for you and guide you with any prior steps you may need to take. You can then decide if you would like an indoor or outdoor wedding as well as what time of year you would like to get married.
Catering and Decorations
If budget allows, would you like the venue to include all the catering and decorations? This can definitely make wedding planning easier as the responsibility of feeding all the guests will be the venue’s responsibility, as well as making the venue look wonderful for the occasion. You can have a traditional sit-down meal, a buffet-style meal or even a BBQ if you’re planning a summer outdoor wedding. Don’t forget you can get married on a weekday to make it more budget-friendly or on a weekend to make it easier for your guests to attend.
Getting organised
Now you’ve decided on your wedding venue, the date and the guest list you can start to plan the finer details. Get a wedding planning notebook and start to tick off the items below. Don’t forget to write down any appointments you make and the dates of when each item needs to be completed.
It’s also a great idea to set reminders on your phone so you don’t forget when items need to be paid for. Finally, make sure you leave enough time to complete all the tasks to alleviate any stress. For example, you may need to have alterations to your wedding dress six weeks beforehand.

Wedding Advice for the big day
- Don’t worry if everything doesn’t go to plan. The main thing is that everyone has a great time.
- If you can, reuse! Facebook Marketplace and eBay have some great deals when it comes to wedding items,
- Don’t compare your wedding to others – each is unique!
- Get tips from friends from their wedding days. What worked well and what would they do differently?
- It’s a long day. Take some snacks to leave in your room!
- Take some flat shoes just in case your feet get sore from being in heels all day.
