In celebration of this fabulous invention from centuries ago, the mid afternoon delight of savoury with sweet fills the mid afternoon snack craving and sparks conversation and much need R&R. National Afternoon Tea Week runs from 11th to 17th August 2025 but is no means confined to a week and is served all year round making it an ideal experience for birthdays, get-togethers and special occasions.
Set in a classic country house, Byron’s sits perfectly placed for afternoon teas. Located just a couple of miles from Nottingham City Centre yet feels like you are in the midst of the countryseide with a network of lakes, woodland and country park on its doorstep. Fine views and landscaped gardens and fountains come in handy to walk off the sugar rush spike.
Recently featured on Nottinghamshire Live, as a firm favourite of Lynette Pinchess and her food column “savoured afternoon tea at a grand hall and felt like lady of the manor.” The hall hosts a Summer Traditional Afternoon Tea or a Grand Menu including a cocktail on arrival. Home made scones baked by the Pastry Chef are soft and airy and provide the relishing crumble base when devoured with fruit preserve and lashings of clotted cream. A selection of fine teas and coffee are served.
The summer menu features fruit jellies topped with whipped cream add another dimension playing to the strawberry and Wimbledon season. A glass of fizz can also be added making the afternoon more special and the bar also serves up a range of mocktails and soft drink options.
National Afternoon Tea Week shines a spotlight on this popular experience, be it as a gift or bigger celebration. Since its formation in 1840s, the concept of bringing people together and fill a peckish hour with a selection of treats set over three tiers. At Colwick Hall the highlight is the sweet selection served on a slate and the sugar rush is well balanced over copious cups of tea.
