Celebrating Mother’s Day 2022
Mother’s Day is our annual reminder to honour the women we love most – mums, grandmas, aunties, and anyone else that has made an impact on our lives. While many of us weren’t lucky enough to shower our mothers with love and adoration in person over lockdown, the sentiment behind Mothering Sunday has reached new heights. It deserves to be celebrated in style now that restrictions are lifted.
This year, Mother’s Day will fall on 27th March. We want to let you know what we’re planning to do to mark the special occasion.
How did Mother’s Day begin?
Firstly, it’s important to understand why we celebrate Mother’s Day. The tradition didn’t just come out of thin air. During the Middle Ages, children as young as 10 years old would often leave home to work. Gradually, the custom developed. Children and adults who moved away from the place they grew up were allowed to visit their mothers and ‘mother’ churches on the fourth Sunday of the Christian festival of Lent. This day is now known as Mothering Sunday.
How we’re celebrating Mother’s Day
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than in Colwick Hall style! We’re putting on a special Mother’s Day afternoon tea. We’re allowing you and the women you love most to create an afternoon of memories to treasure for a lifetime. Few pleasures can beat tucking into a lavish spread of homemade scones with clotted cream and jam, a savoury tier, and a delectable sweet selection – all accompanied with a variety of teas served in Byron’s Brasserie.
Colwick Hall also offers you the pleasure of having afternoon tea in the traditional way. Relax with every sip and take in the beautiful, historic surroundings of the house that was once home to Lord Byron or take a stroll around the network of eight different lakes, a marina, a ruined church and a country park.
Whilst we are serving across both Byron’s Brasserie and the Grand Ballroom, bookings are full at present for the afternoon. However, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out! You have the opportunity to enjoy the calming ritual of having afternoon tea in the comfort of your own home with our click and collect service.
Alternatively, you can buy a special gift voucher and relish your afternoon with those closest to you at a later date. Vouchers are valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of purchase and we are happy to offer an extension if needed.
Plus, the good news is there are options for afternoon tea (with fizz, of course), dinner in our brasserie, an overnight stay or a monetary value to be used across any of our dining stay options – so the choice is yours!
Head here to purchase a gift voucher or call 0115 9500 566. You can also drop-in in person. We look forward to chatting with you soon! Don’t forget to think of a special message for your loved one as we’ll personalise the voucher and send it via email, post or printed in hard copy at our reception in the hall.
